Just a short update here (that doesn't exactly fit into a twitter post). With the weather turning better (and our trip quickly approaching), I've begun to run once again. As silly as it is, one of the reasons I'd been hesitant was because I couldn't find my iPod nano, so I couldn't record my runs on Nike+ (and thus, what was the point of running, I guess is the logic). Anyway, I never did find my iPod, but I did research a few alternatives.
Rolling the clock back to 2006 for this post, but I think that this one's worth it, maybe... I guess. For the longest time (we're talking over a year), I tried to figure out this thing called Twitter. What purpose does it serve in my life? What's it do that a blog or an ichat/gtalk status doesn't? And why in the world would I ever a) go to the site and read other people's tweets, or b) go to the site and type in trivial update on my life in 140 characters or less?
Cyndi's been singing the They Might Be Giants jingle for a while now, but it's decided to go ahead and infect my brain as well. In any case, if you have no idea what I'm talking about, check out the video. There could be worse things stuck in your head.
kenjisan.com is back up and running, thanks to Ken, not that there's anything new there. At work here, our department started using a Google Calendar to track projects (not as good as a project manager like BaseCamp or MS Project, but it's free) and vacation days (something it actually IS good at doing).
Anyway, that prompted me to finally look into other tech-savvy solutions. I finally set up a feed reader (again, using Google's solution) and I think I've pretty much captured all the major feeds I read. It's pretty neat, and since I use multiple computers (two at home, one at work), having what I've read saved across all platforms is nice. Of course, it still has the problem that I've always had with feed readers in that it doesn't update immediately and many times, I end up reading a post on some site before it shows up in the reader, but that's not a huge deal.
I also set up Twitter (username: kenjisan). A quick look just now shows they've finally added a "Friends of" link ("Followers" I assume). While the service is a bit rough around the edges, it seems like a good idea for the DC crew to use (basically, it broadcasts what you're doing to who ever's listening over IM or phone texts), since so much of what we do is on the fly (Caps game tonight!).
My del.icio.us account got a quick update (again, kenjisan). I finally added some friends to it beyond davextreme and updated a bunch of the tags.
And that brings us back to kenjisan.com. I realize that I'm the kind of gadget person who often times enjoys a new toy simply because it's a new toy, rather than anything practical. That certainly extends into my internet forays. Tagging and Flash are my toy newest internet toys, so I'll be concentrating on integrating them somehow into a rebuilt MT blog. Once that's done (or half done, as is often the case), I'll probably go back to never updating the thing again. Hopefully it'll be a fun ride for the time being.
