F**K YOU, Tivo!!!

Yeah, I'm getting screwed now on their rewards system. They finally reduced the Series 3 TiVo to 75,000 points, which would put me only a month away from having enough to get one... except that referral points expire after 24 months. I've now lost 10,000 points and by the time I get close to 75,000 again, another 10,000 points will expire. Get the picture?

FYI: you should be able to add a box to your old account. I have three TiVo boxes registered on my single account.
I'm sorry you've been put through such a hassle. They really should change their policies, it's absurd to make you pay or wait for it to be shipped back. I also had no idea DHL was so unreliable, I've never dealt with them for any home related deliveries.

As for not being able to transfer your account, I'm not really sure why that was such a problem. When we got a DVD-burning Tivo for my roommate we just added it to my account without any problem. And original Tivo Box we had even dropped down to the 6.95 multi-service discount price without us having to do anything.
My guess about the Tivo accounts is that I was actually replacing the unit, rather than adding it to the account. Also, I was getting a rebate for signing up for a year of service, so I had to actually start a new account with that on it. I don't know, it was pretty goofy.
When we needed a power cord replaced for an Apple computer, they shipped us a new one and then had us return the old one (with the stipulation that if we didn't return it they'd charge us for it). Doing it in that order makes so much more sense b/c your customer can actually keep using your product. Not that I haven't heard horror stories about Apple, too, but that's true of any large company.
